The Kitchen Sink

Stories of passion and identity converge in three powerful portrayals of everyday life. A few strangers become a little less strange while leaving lasting impressions. A couple explores who they once were (and could be again) while deciding what to wear at dinner. The band plays on, proving once and for all that live music is better.

GRAMMY-nominated artist Dave Eggar returns to the stage with new original music composed in partnership with Chuck Palmer. This longtime collaborator is joined onstage by percussionist Luke Notary, bassist Andrew O’Connor, and vocalist Rebekah Del Rio, whose role in David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive catapulted her to the global stage.

Meet the Musicians

Three passionate portrayals of everyday life

Gordian Knot

A musical retrospective of sorts, live music drives the action in this new work featuring some of the company’s favorite musical selections from the past 25 years (Boxed In, Games of Steel, Remainder, Ralph to name a few). What began as a pure “movement visualization” for this music evolved into a piece referencing an ancient story of Alexander the Great. To tackle an insoluble problem, sometimes you have to change the rules, or in the words of Attack Theatre: “Train your mind to look around a problem.” This hypercomplex work packs more movement per minute than ever, from the intricacies to sweeping gestures, underscoring the give and take of Attack Theatre’s creative process and the individual (and collective) contributions of the company dancers.

We were strangers, until we met

Portrayed through the parallel voice of two women (Michele de la Reza and Rebekah Del Rio), this piece explores the layers of identity that shift with each passing stranger. As new energies and relationships come and go, new layers of expression and emotion are formed. Inspired by the people, experiences, and layers of creative influence in life, choreography for this new work was born through the contributions of artists from Michele de la Reza’s professional past, including David Dorfman, Nita Little, David Rousseve, Mark Taylor and Mark Haim; as well as past company members such as Liz Chang, Angela Essler and Anthony Williams.

Dressed to Remember

Originally choreographed and performed by Peter Kope and Michele de la Reza with Jil Stifel and Jeff Davis, Dressed To Remember debuted in 2004 at the New Hazlett Theater. This piece experimented with time, appearance and whimsy to sculpt a struggle that is often present when two people cease to connect. Set in a café, a couple faces off with the quiet until the energy and delight of their past emerges to remind them of the people they once were. This slow burn turns red hot as a haunting narrative gives way to a buoyant curiosity that reignites passion in the pursuit of human connection.

Wash your hands of the same old song and dance.
This is The Kitchen Sink.
